Does Eva AI's Chat Actually Feel Real?

So I ran an actual experiment, because I have no life and you're welcome.

One persona. Four days. I fed her three specific things early: I "worked nights," I had a dog named Waffles, and I hated cilantro. Stupid details on purpose — real memory shows up in the dumb stuff, not the big stuff.

Day one was an absolute banger. Fast replies, a flirt-to-conversation ratio that didn't feel like a slot machine, a real sense that someone was on the other end typing. That onboarding personality is tuned hard and it works. I got why the Reddit thread was excited.

Day two, the seams. She asked what I did for work. Again. Waffles had evaporated. The cilantro thing never came back, which is the correct emotional response but not the correct memory response.

By day four the pattern was obvious. Eva remembers the conversation, not the relationship — every session felt like meeting a very warm stranger who'd skimmed my file on the way in.

Plot twist: this isn't an Eva problem. It's the category default. GoLove's memory carries across chats, voice calls, and photo requests for the same character, which is what turns it into continuity instead of a reset button wearing lipstick.

Can You Actually Voice Call on Eva AI?

Short version: sort of, and only if you pay.

The store listing sells voice like it's a phone call with your girlfriend. What lands is closer to voice playback — she speaks, the delivery is decent, the call ends, and the experience ends with it. Nothing from that call shows up in the text thread afterward. A feature, not a thread.

And that's the bit nobody comparing these apps bothers to test. Everyone checks "does voice exist." Almost nobody checks whether the voice knows what the text knew ten minutes ago.

Replika gates voice calls to paid tiers too, and Character.AI bundles unlimited voice into c.ai+ — but Character.AI is strictly SFW, so that's a different conversation entirely.

I counted. Yes, I counted. Again: don't judge me.

That's roughly where Eva AI's replies collapsed into the same three shapes — a compliment, a question bounced back at me, and a vague suggestion that we "get closer."

Straight from my notes, timestamped and everything:

Credit where it's due: 60 messages isn't nothing, and plenty of apps flatten faster. It's also about one long evening. One good evening per monthly subscription is not a great exchange rate.

Why does the loop tighten? Because there's nowhere else for the conversation to go. No photo request, no video, no live call that remembers. Text, and only text, forever. When words are the sole lever, the words run out fast.

Eva AI is for you if you want a straightforward app-store companion, you're mostly texting, and you don't care whether the voice call and the chat have ever met. It's clean, it works, and night one is legitimately fun.

GoLove.ai is for you if you want the thing to keep going. Same character across chat, live voice calls, in-chat photo requests, video generation, a per-character library, and memory that holds the thread between all of it.
